Welcome to the BizTalk Experience Blog!
I've started this website is to share my experience and the challenges I've
encountered during my journey of becoming a BizTalk developer.
About me
My background is actually in sales and account management, but I've always dreamed of a career in IT.
In 2011, I decided to take the chance and quit my job as sales executive to become a programmer.
After a short training period of 3 months, followed by 3 months of internship, I was hired by the company where I completed my internship. Problem was, while they where all professionals in almost every language, I didn't know anything.
On top of that, they didn't have the time or experience to train me.
I was instructed to teach myself to program in SQL Server Management Studio.
Along the way I learned about Visual Studio, Scrum, a little bit of C#, CSS and HTML, but I would always have been the newbie.
In 2015, I was 'discovered' by a head hunter who was looking for a BizTalk developer.
Although I didn't think I was qualified for the job, this gentleman was rather persistant and I
decided to accept his invitation to meet with the company.
I fell in love with them therewith, and they with me.
The challenge I accepted was immens;
- I had never even seen or heard of BizTalk, let alone programmed in Visual Studio to develop an application,
- There was no other programmer employed by the company that hired me,
- No one knew how BizTalk worked or what the purpose of the applications were,
- The former employee who build the applications wasn't trained to do so, it was all tied toghether in a messy manner,
- The second employee, a freelancer who was hired to clean up the first guys mess and create multiple
well organized applications, had left prematurly due to a disagreement. He didn't transfer his work to me,
nor did he document his work.
So, there I was; New to BizTalk, new to the organisation, and no-one to fall back on.
You can imagine it was quite a steep learning curve, and I've encountered a lot of challenges along the way.
As I tried to uncover the ins and outs of BizTalk, I've seen and worked through quite a lot tutorials and tips. I've taken notes of everything I have learned, and since it's alle documented I thought I might as well share it with the world.
Enjoy the journey!
